MOVING COLOUR STUDIO

The collaborative practice of Kyle Hughes-Odgers and Chris Nixon. We are a multi-disciplinary team creating layered artworks that engage strong narratives and build a sense of place.

We collaborate with curators, architects, placemakers, and developers to elevate opportunities through form, colour and scale.

Shaping large-scale infrastructure through public artwork to create a sense of place.

Feature Project

Linewide Graphic Trail.
7km long across 5 train stations. 120 piers, 8 abutments. 7 Sculptures.

This is the largest public artwork in the Southern Hemisphere. Located under the rail viaduct across Carlisle, Oat Street, Welshpool, Queens Park, Cannington and Beckenham in Western Australia.

Mindeera Spring

South Perth, WA
Basketball court and skate plaza artwork.
Collaboration with Kamsani Bin Salleh. Our design combines the influence and path of the ancient underground freshwater Mindeera Spring with the community of basketball to bring people together.
Merredin Silos

Merredin, WA
The artwork tells the story of Merredin, using abstract imagery to reflect its natural environment and diverse community through colour, landforms and agricultural history. Standing 12 storeys high, it is the largest silo artwork in Australia.
A House in the Forest

Hnifsdalur, Iceland.
As part of a six week residency working across 5 external public artworks in the Westfjords of Iceland.
Happy Tree

Waterford, WA
A stand-alone sculptural tree with painted ground treatment, the artwork was a key feature in the placemaking strategy to re-energize the plaza, creating a space of positivity and connection for the community.
Formations

Karratha, WA
Watertank mural installation. The artwork explores the formation of the landscape by water and how this experience changes seasonally, mapping to the cyclical surface of the watertank.
The Midnight Sun

Ísafjörður, Iceland
The artwork was inspired by the local fjord and the long summer days. It depicts the midnight sun as it dips low in the sky without ever fully setting. Local residents interpreted the sun’s yellow path as the flight path of the small but notorious local airport.
